Project Description

JB Hi-Fi Ltd is Australia's largest home entertainment retailer, selling music CDs, plasma and LCD televisions, audio/visual, digital camera photography, portable audio, in-car entertainment, computer/video games, DVD movies, gadgets and information technology. They have over 130 stores in Australia and 10 in New Zealand.

JB Hi-Fi launched its workplace giving program, Helping Hands, in November 2008. The charities currently supported cover a range of humanitarian and environmental needs and are charitable causes which were identified as being important to JB staff, as well as aligning with JB's core philosophy around low operating costs and minimal government funding.

Helping Hands' key features

All members of the board and management team donate at least 1% of their gross salary and many stores have staff participation rates of more than 65%. Since the program commenced, over $7 million has been donated to their charity partners.

JB Hi-Fi also introduced their 'Change for Change' initiative in 2010, installing donation boxes in all stores nationally to encourage customers and staff to donate some of their spare change to help change the lives of many. All donations are divided evenly between their charities.
